The Grey Man’s sound is an absorbing, murky, sweet spot between blues and folk, harking back to early 1900 ‘story teller’ songs, injected with forceful, riff driven acoustic guitar work.
Taking inspiration from great guitarists and song writers such as Skip James, John Frusciante, Lead Belly and Son House, if the stripped back guitar and vocal line doesn’t sound like it kicked its way out of an old, forgotten place then the song is chucked out. Songs like ‘Wherever Devils Run To’ & ‘Black Sky Eyes’ exemplify that this is music to draw out those tales born of the dark pits inside us all.
