Michael started playing the Jeffries duet concertina in Blackburn, Lancs in 1958. He has an international repertoire of folk dances, popular songs, music hall numbers and standards, making full use of the chromatic range and pure tone of the Jeffries instrument. His squeezebox featured on the Albion Band's dance album "Kickin' Up the Sawdust" (Harvest SHSP4073, 1977), same year as his solo album based on Wallingford pub sessions, "The Rampin' Cat" (Free Reed Records FRR009, 1977) with contributions from John Tams and Rod & Danny Stradling. Over the years he has accompanied singers Andrew Frank and Matthew Crampton for many gigs in folk clubs and festivals including Sidmouth Folk Week 2014 and 2017, and contributed regularly to concertina workshops at Witney, Kilve and Swaledale. Michael will be playing for Playford dancing with fiddler Christine Dyer at Sidmouth 2018. He busks acoustically.
